Congrats on the DD!
I think this a big hot spring containing at least hydrogen sulfide because of the the rotten eggs you smell. Also the yellow color comes from the sulfur. (The brown part probably could be something with iron I assume...) And it will probably burn off skin, yeah... maybe it even is kind of an acid lake.. I never had a closer look at the hydrothermal phenomenons of Yellowstone .. Hope I was able to help (But I could also be terribly wrong since geology is only a hobby of mine..)
